Stony Brook's Bryan Dougher has earned the StatSheet America East Player of the Week for the week ending January 30th. Justin Edwards from Maine has won StatSheet's America East Freshman of the Week. Finally, Boston University's Malik Thomas is StatSheet's America East 6th Man of the Week.
Dougher finished first in the America East in scoring (21.5 pts per game) and three pointers (4.0 per game). He also put up 4 rebounds per game and 60% shooting. The Stony Brook senior played well in victories against Hartford and Boston University.
Dougher led all scoring for the Seawolves with 23 points on 57% shooting in a big 60-37 win over Hartford. He followed that up by leading the team in scoring with 20 points plus an additional 5 rebounds in a 66-57 win against Boston University.
This is the first StatSheet America East Player of the Week award for Bryan Dougher. However, he has come in second once. The runner-up this week is our own Mike Black. Honorable mention goes to senior Gerald McLemore from Maine.
StatSheet America East Freshman of the Week: Maine's Justin Edwards
Justin Edwards averaged 32 minutes of playing time starting both games for Maine. In an 80-69 win over New Hampshire, Edwards contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds. Then in a 67-59 win over Binghamton, he led all scoring with 18 points on 42% shooting.
Amazingly, Justin Edwards has won the StatSheet America East Freshman of the Week 8 times. Xavier Pollard from Maine grabs runner-up. Mark Nwakamma from Hartford takes honorable mention.
StatSheet America East 6th Man of the Week: Boston University's Malik Thomas
Sophomore Malik Thomas, a 6-7 guard/forward, averaged 17 minutes over two games for the Terriers. In a lopsided 83-48 win against Maryland-Baltimore County, Thomas got 9 points and 2 blocked shots. During a 66-57 loss to Stony Brook, he racked up 7 points and 3 rebounds.
This is the first StatSheet America East 6th Man of the Week award for Malik Thomas. Jamar Wertz, a sophomore guard from Maryland-Baltimore County, is runner up. Ferg Myrick, a junior forward from New Hampshire, receives honorable mention. Albany has won the StatSheet America East Player of the Week award 5 times this season.
